Insurance – Homeowners

If you are having any type of Structural work carried out on your premises then you should contact your insurer to advise what work is being carried out and how long this is likely to take.

The Contractor should have his own insurance for Public Liability, Employers Liability (if applicable) and Contract Works whilst he is working on your premises and this documentation should be requested before work commences to ensure all insurances are on risk and in order. If you request this documentation from any builder who is reluctant to supply it, simply don’t instruct that builder it’s not worth putting you or your family at risk. Once the structure is completed and the money has changed hands then it becomes the responsibility of the householder. They should notify their insurers to increase the Buildings sum insured and possible the contents sum insured to include the rebuild of this extension in the even of a total loss.
